Evil Dead remake makes big promises

As we all know, remakes usually turn out to be poo and this is especially true for horror movies. No matter how much hype or schmancy throwback poster art is thrown at it, the formulas, b-gradey goodness and general lack of self awareness that makes them stand out as classics are lost amidst a sea of commercial necessity and disrespectful digital gloss. 

That said, a remake of Sam Raimi's low budget opus of terror, Evil Dead, is set for release next year. And although initially we threw our hands up in the air and shared a giant exclamation of disdain with the rest of the original's fans across the globe, this new red band trailer does look sliiiiiiiiiiightly promising. Some of the original producers are on board with Raimi and Bruce Campbell both on the pro-remake bandwagon (which basically means they got enough moneyz to make them say yes) and there's a hell of a lot of gore . So at least there's that. At least. We'll remain sceptical until we're nestled into our preview screening.
