The less talented of the Coreys has died. Corey Haim, best remembered for his role in
The Lost Boys, passed away last night (our time) from an apparent drug overdose. He was 38-years-old.
Even if the name doesn’t mean anything to you (he was big for about 15 minutes in the late '80s), Haim's tales of excess are inspiring. Hitting the big time with 1987's
The Lost Boys, he found a best friend in co-star Corey Feldman. The two Coreys soon became Hollywood regulars and developed a powerful lust for 'partying'. Within a couple of years they were unemployed crackheads – a status they would enjoy on and off for the next two decades.
We’ll let Haim tell the story (taken from his most recent bio): "I lived in Los Angeles in the '80s, which was not the best place to be. I did cocaine for about a year and a half, then it led to crack. I started on the downers which were a hell of a lot better than the uppers because I was a nervous wreck. But one led to two, two led to four, four led to eight, until at the end it was about 85 a day – the doctors could not believe I was taking that much. And that was just the valium – I'm not talking about the other pills I went through."
While Haim eventually sought treatment, and declared himself "clean, sober, humble and happy" in a 2004 interview, it seems he recently fell back on old habits. And on that note, we’re declaring 2010 The Year Everybody Dies.
