I’m not an ugly person. In fact, some people think i’m
actually quite handsome.
But when I went to Denmark last year I felt like the fat kid who use to
hold the sign in my primary school photos. (His name was Tait and he
use to eat orange peels off the ground.) Anyway, the point is, Danes
are really, really good-looking. So much so that I’m actually quite
surprised they came up with such a great idea as the Fox Hotel.
Personally, if I was that good looking I’d never get anything done -
let alone a design project like this.
THE BRIEF
Transform a standard three-star hotel into a dream kip-over by giving
21 creative teams from around the world free reign to do whatever they
want – including wallpaper, furniture and carpets.
THE PROCESS
As well as being ridiculously good-looking, Danes are also really
generous. Before they started work on the hotel, they gave away all the
old hotel furniture to students and other needy lowlifes. Personally, I
would have burnt the whole lot in a giant public bonfire while I sat
back and smoked a fat joint made out of 100 euro notes. But that’s
because I’m also ugly on the inside.
THE PEOPLE
The next step was to find suitable artists to carry out the mammoth
job. Over 3000 artists, graphic designers and street artists were
invited to submit their ideas – with the list then being narrowed down
to the final 55 artists from 15 countries. Mostly unknown but all
good-looking from an artistic point of view. Despite the diversity of
their backgrounds and accents, the group was being driven by one common
denominator: to create the world’s most fantastic hotel in just four
weeks.
