In 1986 Sloane Peterson (or Mia Sara) became everyone's dream girl. Regardless of sexual preference, there wasn't one person who saw Ferris Bueller's Day Off
and didn't think to themselves "HOW DO I MAKE THAT GIRL MY GIRL?".
Without Sloane, Ferris Bueller
would not have been half as good. She was the cool, calm and collected member of the trio, able to contain Ferris' bizarre impulses while urging Cameron to live a little. It didn't hurt that she also had the most banging wardrobe ever.
Others tried to capture the Sloane Peterson charm, but they failed. Really, really badly.
But what happened afterwards? Was Mia Sara always destined to stay in Sloane's shadow? And for the love of god, what the hell happened to that white leather, tasseled jacket?
Well before Sloane was Bueller's lady she starred in a film called Legend
with Tom Cruise, in which she rarely wore a top. That's cool.
The late '80s saw Sara star in a bunch of telemovies , then in 1994 she won a Saturn award for her real-life-in-a-theatre film Timecop
. It had Jean-Claude Van Damme in it, and was about time travel. She did a weird interview with Conan O'Brien to promote it..
Looking at her film and TV work from the 1990s and 2000s, one thing becomes clear: Mia Sara is crazy for the fantasy genre. Jack and the Beanstalk, Wizard of Oz, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, she's bonkers for it!
Another thing Sara has shown a penchant for; sons of famous people. They are probably one of her favourite things. For years she was married Jason Connery, son of Sean, and then got together with Brian Henson. Jim Henson's son!
Although she only really guest stars on TV now, Sara is too busy flying planes to do much else (we're not kidding, she actually does that). You'll always be Sloane Peterson to us Mia.
