We all like to make fun of Americans (hello George W Bush, the crazy
'God Hates Fags' religious nutters, trailer park trash, fatties,
rednecks, the cast of
Friends, Denise Richards, Paris Hilton, Tom
Cruise, everybody on the
Maury Povich Show...) but don't forget they
have a lot of good things going for them too. And one of those things is the San Francisco annual pillow fight.
The pillow fight falls on Valentine's Day in Justin Herman Plaza where, at the stroke of 6pm, it begins. The only rules are you have to bring your own pillow(s) and you're not allowed to hit people without pillows or those holding cameras. And that's it. Just one massive, and fairly ridiculous pillow fight.
And, unlike American-invented
No Pants Day (another good thing about the USA), the pillow fight organisers collect donations for two charities focussed on helping the homeless and needy. Although, mildly ironically, they aim to provide people with blankets, clothing and... pillows.
