There's not a kid alive that wouldn't have sacrificed their left testicle or pinky for a Hoverboard after seeing Marty McFly defy gravity in the Back To The Future trilogy. That vision of a future (that was actually suppose to be about six years from now) promised of a world of cars that fly and run on garbage, holograms that leap from billboards and a whole lot of technology that feel like we're decades away from experiencing. Disappointing isn't it?

Let's look at what our best personal flying machine options are at the moment. We recently came across an Australian personal hovercraft called Airboard which for $14 thousand can float you on a cushion of air at speeds of up to 25kmh. Sounds promising right? Well, don't get your hopes up as the machine is bulky, looks somewhat awkward and, in reality, can't take you anywhere that a push bike couldn't. One of its key failings is that it can only travel across hard ground, so visions of gliding across water or the sand on the beach will never be a reality. Fail. Anyway...

Airboard.

An object that's a bit less of a fail is the Martin Jet Pack. Jet Packs have been around for a while but the Martin Jet Pack is the first that has been made available to the consumer for prices that are not that disimilar to that of high performance motorbike. On the upside you actual can fly at speeds of over 100km/hr for about 50km but on the downside these jetpacks are enormous and not like the tidy IronMan esque suit or backpack that you might be picturing. Martin Jetpack

So that's the best I could find... pretty depressing isn't it. At the rate technology is going I can't see a world where a push bike, skatey or even good old walking aren't going to be the best option for small distance travel for quite some time. Some more pics of these "flying machines" to the right of this post.

By the end of the month, my mo will be its own self contained transportation unit. Aerodynamic, whisper quiet with wings and handlebars.

Personally I'll take internet over Hoverboard, but then I need to get outside in the fresh air more.

That hoverboard sucks BAD. As for that jet-pack, if it were any bigger it would be a concord. So disappointing that we are still so far.
