12.24pm: Down at Darling Harbour in Sydney for the Mountain Dew
Battle for Supremacy. It is… raining. Heavily. The guys running the show are telling me that there is a break coming in the weather and that it will take 20 – 30 minutes to dry the course and we’re going to see some skating. Most of the skaters have registered and it’s pretty much ready to go. The course looks rad.
1:51pm: The worst of the weather is over us now and should be gone in 20 minutes or so. The course builders are setup to dry as soon as it passes. Some of the riders are getting restless and skating the slim dry patch under the bridge. Mapstone is manning the mic.
2:32pm: Bjorn Johnston, winner of the Melbourne Battle for Supremacy dropped by the media tent – unfortunately he’s injured and wont be competing today. He slammed a week ago which resulted in a shattered thumb that required surgery. Bit too much of a risk to head out, especially in these conditions. Still, Lewis Marnell and a few others have rocked up and the crowd is still growing. The only concern now is that the weather prediction is getting worse and worse.
3:48pm: The Day After Tomorrow had nothing on this and unfortunately the Mountain Dew
Battle for Supremacy has had to be called off. The break in the weather never came and it would have been impossible to hold a proper comp. I’m bummed for the guys – they had an amazing setup together and it would have been awesome. There’s been a few guys pushing around though. The contest will be rescheduled and put on in a few weeks' time.
