While the motorbike debate has traditionally been between Japanese superbikes and American roadhogs, things aren't that straightforward. Serious bike aficionados know it's all about customised, one-of-a-kind motorbikes.

Whether it's a restored World War II effort or something straight out of Terminator 4, the world of customised bikes is as arcane as it is expensive. You're looking at over $40 thousand just to get a foot in the door. But then you're not really buying a bike – you're buying a show-piece that will make friends crazy jealous.

Besides, taking any of these out on the open road is a really bad idea. If you don't kill yourself you'll probably cause several Hiroshima style traffic accidents as everyone strains to checkout the bike.

Amazing bikes. There has been a massive shift to customised bikes over the past few years. Dues Machina is a good example. (http://www.deus.com.au/) I think it was started by the founder of Mambo clothing... The bikes seem to only be for the super wealthy ex-ceo types, which kind of sucks. But the bikes are great. Would love to get back on a bike, after 'the crash' I never got back on one.

true Jamie. is actually not all that expensive to just do it yourself if you have a lil mechanical sense. the Deus bikes look rad but damn, $$$! i have also heard a few reviews that some of the work is not all that great.this bike is amazing http://www.falconmotorcycles.com/ also the scene in Japan is crazy! as usual www.bratstyle.com

I'm all for the OC Chopper! I'd rather ride a death machine that looked cool, than a hectic fast machine that looked like every other bike. Easy Rider Style.

That is some bad ass bikes, i love the last one bmw. But you will be surprised what you can come up with when you buy an old cruiser a angle grinder and some pipes, and star to cut and shut.

I customised my GF's scooter by putting Chrome Harley Mirrors on it... She made me take the racing numbers off it though... 69
