Fun rumour/Wiki-fact has it that the humble sandwich was named after an 18th century aristocrat John Montagu (aka 4th Earl of Sandwich or Lord Sandwich) who had a preference for eating his cold meats between two pieces of bread. Others around him cottoned onto the advantages of this form of food and began requesting their meats served "the same as Sandwich". Who knew that a few hundred years later that this somewhat unconventional meat delivery device would be the backbone of some of the largest businesses in the world?
When it comes to sandwiches the possibilities are actually endless which is highlighted by one of the best food blogs (and use of word conjoining) we've come across in a long time: Scanwiches. As the name suggests, Scanwiches is a seemingly infinite mouth-watering feed of sandwich combinations, dissected and flatbed scanned to reveal their delectable/disgusting contents in macro, full colour goodness.
