Apple is hosting their annual love-in conference today to show off their brand new iPad. While that’s nice for them, it makes compiling tech news a total nightmare. Every other gadgets/audio/computer company has basically shut its doors for the week, knowing full well that anything they announce will just get lost in all the shiny, shiny hysteria that surrounds Apple. Seems as good a time as any to take a look back at Italy’s BrionVega and their unique contribution to industrial design.
Founded in 1945, BrionVega made its name with a series of striking radio and audio designs. The Cube Radio and their Musical Component Robot are the most famous, the latter being a particularly brilliant way to fit a radio, amplifier, speakers and turntable into a module that people could take apart and remodel on a whim.
Anyway, the good news is they’ve now relaunched both products. While the technology inside has been updated (CD players!), the actual industrial design is just as unique as it was when these first rolled of the assemble line… Now, what’s happening over at this Apple conference?
