Steve Jobs has announced today at the WWDC keynote in San Francisco, that they will be indeed releasing the iPhone 4. As we already all know,
that phone was accidentally released by an employee, but Jobs didn't make reference to specifics, but did say that “
now, some of you have already seen this, but believe me, you ain’t seen it.“
The phone is stunning. Simply stunning. The Fan Boys will be frothing at the mouth for this one. The new phone has something to talk about called "retina" display. They are calling it retina display because it is 326 pixels per inch, it’s more pixels than the human retina can see (when the device is held 10 to 12 inches from your face). Wow.
Major points summarised for us all with A.D.D:
- The iPhone 4 screen is 960×640. This gives it four times more pixel than the iPhone 3GS.
- The iPhone 4 gives you 78% of the pixels on the iPad.
- The iPhone 4 will use Apple’s A4 chip with a bigger battery than ever before. The combination of these two things allows for 40% better battery life.
- The new steel rim acts as an antenna.
- It has a gyroscope for games now.. not sure what that means.
- The camera is now 5 mega pixels, and there is a front facing one.
- 720p HD video at a full 30 frames per second. Apple has made a new app for editing the movies on the phone called iMovie. This will be available in the App Store for $4.99. (look at my total lack of surprise)
- iBooks for iPhone will now be available
- The iOS will FINALLY multitask... Thanks God.
- Also and finally he talked about the video chat, only available this year over Wi-Fi until the networks can sort their shit out.
The iPhone 4 goes on sale in 16 days on June 24. Pre-orders start a week from tomorrow. On June 24 it will launch in 5 counties. Then in July they’ll add 18 more countries. By the end of September they will be shipping in 88 countries, Jobs noted.
iOS 4 will launch on June 21. It will work completely (aside from FaceTime) on the iPhone 3GS, and will mostly work on the iPhone 3G and new iPod touch. For the first time, the upgrade will be available for free across the board
The iPhone 4 will be available in black and white. The 16GB version will be $199, the 32GB version will be $299.
Just when I had recoverd from the iPad purchase, here comes another must have technophiles acquisition.
