'Back to the Future' self-lacing sneakers are closer than ever

The year 2015 is on its way and we still don't have flying cars, self-drying jackets or talking houses. We do, however, almost have Marty McFly's self-lacing Nikes from Back To The Future II.

Behold!

So they're not Nikes, and they're not exactly the same. But they are pretty boss. Apparently, with the help of donations, these babies might become available in real life. (There could be a bit of a race on too, because Nike has just patented the self-lacing kicks.) Power Laces are seeking donations of $250 which will score you a pair of the sneakers once they are created.

We close with a request: can somebody please make the Hoverboard too?
