Trigger Happy Americans

The American National Rifle Association estimated that in 1999 there were about 215,000,000 guns in American with about one gun in every second household. Messed up. Photographer Kyle Cassidy began to wonder who these people actually were and over two years undertook the task of photographing and interviewing 100 American gun owners in their homes.

lan Cooperman of the Washington Post put it perfectly " highly political, even polemical. The question is in which direction? Each picture in Armed America could be a pro-gun advertisement - or an anti-gun poster. That's what makes the book so riveting"

For me seeing all these "regular" people proudly displaying their steel and talking about gun ownership as their "right" as Americans just scares the shit out of me... I weep for the future.

was it not Charlton Heston that said "From my cold dead hands" at a NRA convention regarding gun laws in the states in a Michael Moore film? (and i stress film). well suck shit buddy! Cold and DEAD! maybe we'll see some changes.

"There's been another shooting at a University in the US." - Ohhhh, wait. That's right, of course there was, it's in the constitution for the politicians to be fucking backwards idiots who will not change the laws until about another, let's say, 345 students are killed on 12 different University campuses over the next decade. Then i am sure they will change the laws. These photos are just more proof how stupid the laws are. STUPID.

I am an american and I bought my first gun less than a month ago. I am in the repossession business and it got to a point where I was being hassled and threatened with guns more often than not. Since I now wear one on my hip when I show up for the car (and a bulletproof vest), I haven't had a single issue since. The only "right to bear arms" thing is the 2nd Amendment of our constitution and many forget why it was put there in the first place. It was for militias and to make sure that the government couldn't control the people... well now the government has bigger guns than the people and it makes the people believe that it will stomp the ever loving shit out of them if they act up anyway. I own one because I feel safer having it when I work. Would I rather not own one? You bet your ass.

They did it in Australia after the Port Arthur massacre. It was pretty controversial at the time and there was a lot of oppostion to it amongst the trigger happy but Australia's a better place for it... we're all about the stabbings these days.

Yes, we are about the stabbings, but it's harder to kill someone else and also you can't have kids freak out at Uni due to to much teenage angst and kill 30 people. You could only really get two people before someone knocked your ass out. Just have to make them illegal, have an amnesty on them for one year, and phase them out. Tough, it will happen in the US sooner or later, probably later though.

I don't feel taking the guns away form Americans will help. It's become such a huge culture and life style choice in America that they see them as a security blanket and a god given right to posses. To take that away from them would cause fear and chaos amongst individuals and communities. Also people WILL find a way to posses them illegally, and a new black market will open up, which can cause more problems. Improved education and awareness, stricter laws on possessing guns should be enforced, and if I'm not mistaken aren't guns and amo sold in department stores? This should be banned.

yeah i know. i really gotta stop doing that! i bet your having problems with it too. but its OK. i found a group that gets together every wednesday night to talk through it. since the '99 Fight Club epidemic things have gotten real crazy. so do yourself a favor and call 19 STOP THE VIOLENCE. we need YOUR support!
