Documentary photographer Ben Pier made the move to New York from Chicago after finishing up school at Chicago's Columbia College. A wise move for a doco snapper as NY would have to be home to some of the world's most unique humans and infinitely fascinating moments.
His recently published photobook, Teenage Teeth, focuses on the youth that dwell in the cities he visits. His portraits shine a light on the truths of being a teenager, steering away from the glossy Hollywood version of youth and directing his lens towards all the bumps, lumps and imperfections we are all familiar with. Don't get us wrong, there's still a huge amount of awkward beauty in his work, a real beauty that resonates stronger in us than most of the bullshit we get fed through film and TV.
