If there was an award for best “about me” on an artist’s website, the photographic duo Stevie Mada (Stevie Verroca and Mada Refujio) would take the cake by a long shot. Here’s a short selection of their genius bio: wanted to be an astronaut; learned English by watching Knight Rider at age four; does not shop at Nieman’s because “Paris” works there. So, as you can see, while other suckers use that space to write about their Fulbright Scholarships, how many dicks they’ve handled, and other self-indulgent crud, Stevie and Mada let their work – not words – do the talking.

The pair, whose work has appeared in Flaunt, among other publications, met in Los Angeles in 2005 and have since created pieces that, in their words, “seam together subtle moments of real beauty with well-defined imagination.” What exactly does that mean though? Such a vague artist statement could mean just about anything, right? Well, if you’re looking for style specifics, this recipe should fit the bill: add a dash of interesting color choices that cleanly mix cool and warm tones, throw in a penchant for gritty textures and gorgeously styled models, bring ingredients to a beyond-awesome location and simmer to perfection.

Instead of turning on the ol’ boob tube and clickin’ over to Tom and Jerry next time you’re bored, feast your eyes upon a more deserving dynamic duo. If you need reassurance, just remember that learning English by watching the Hoff in his prime is reason enough to back Stevie Mada.
