Black cats, shadows, raindrops and dark forests are contrasted with peacocks, little girls and toys in Sarah Wilmer's eerie photography. The New York photographer creates theatrical, cinematic and nightmarish images that sometimes show horror graphically (one particularly unsettling one is of a body lying on the floor, his head surrounded with blood after falling from a rope he attempted hanging himself from) but also show the terror by showing nothing at all. You can't help but wonder what's lurking out of view, hidden in the shadows.
