Do you remember the person who first introduced you to the band
Nirvana? I can't remember the specific person who turned me onto them
but i do remember the first time I heard
Smells Like Teen Spirit
on the radio. It completely blew my mind and managed to encapsulate the
precise fucked up sensation of what it felt like to be a teenager in
the early 90s.
Last year Jason Lazarus, a 31 year old photography instructor at
Columbia College put out a request for a bunch of his friends to share
their memories of who first enlightened them to the iconic Seattle
band. It has become
The Nirvana Project . You can view a sample of these images and stories in the thumbnails to the right of this post --->
According to an article in Time out Chicago, Lazarus doesn't even have
a Nirvana story. He first caught the wave when Kurt Cobain and Nirvana
exploded onto MTV while he was in high school in Kansas (though he
included a story and photo of the friend who introduce him to Sonic
Youth and Pavement; the friend incidentally, got her Cobain addiction
from her dad).
If you have a Nirvana story and would like to share your experience with Jason, submission can be set via email to
jasonlazarus.photo@gmail.com. For more information about Jason Lazarus visit his
website or
blog.
Incidentally, in other Nirvana news, Jason Lazarus just photographed, the now
17 year old baby from the
front cover of Nirvana's
Nevermind album. The young Spencer Elden is in his last year of high school in LA.
