Martin Parr has done that thing where a photographer captures a moment of such ordinariness that it becomes a little bit magical. It's a trick.

Bored Couples is pretty self-explanatory; people seem a little stuck on dates – in restaurants, diners, funfairs, bars – with their partner. (Though it has to be said that the young couple are clearly just nervous to say anything because they are both desperate to get to second base and don't want to mess it up by saying something stupid.)
It's also interesting to think that this could be the one second the couples look like their Mayor and Mayoress of Dullsville, and in the next moment they could be talking or laughing or making out. Timing is everything, after all.
