Having had exhibitions in the US, Europe and Asia, and having won a swag of awards, Kerry Skarbakka continues to take some very clever pictures. His portfolio covers a lot of ground; from the eerie and haunted
Dreamscapes, to the heartbreaking, but gentle, study of his mother's death
Cancer and my Mother, to the photos of falling people from
The Struggle to Right Oneself.
Skarbakka says many things about himself and his artworks. Such as, his ideas behind
The Struggle to Right Oneself (featured in the gallery attached) was that everybody is capable of losing their footing, everybody is vulnerable, and when you realise you're falling, sometimes the best thing to do is just let go. And, among other tidbits of information Skarbakka offers up, he grew up in the Bible belt of the USA and apparently began speaking in tongues when he was seven-years-old.
In ways similar to
Dennis Darzacq's Falling People, Starbakka's photos will make you cringe when you imagine the next couple of seconds after the photos were taken. How bad does the shower scene look? Ouch.
