Over the past year or so there’s been a steady increase of kids running around clubs in Spirit Hoods – wacky faux-fur hats fashioned after different animals like pandas and foxes, looking kinda like cutesy, wearable road-kill. (For whatever reason, Ke$ha’s down for ’em. Method Man and the entire female population of Coachella, too. Hey, some folks like attention, right?)
Well, not everyone at Spirit Hoods sticks solely to figuring out what species of mammal to turn into an adorable headpiece next. Co-founder Ashley Haber also spends his time shooting photos – really good ones at that. He’s no amateur either. Having shot campaigns for Wildfox, Flaunt, NME, Nylon, Alternative Apparel, and tonnes others, Haber seems to be one of those types of dudes who never sleeps.
Comprised of really soft natural lighting, pretty little lens flares, and an airy hint of overexposure, the LA-based photographer infuses his vintage inspired work with all the elements and energy of Southern California.
While there might not be anything particularly game-changing in Haber’s photographic style, there are still plenty of sweet, candy-coated pictures to look at, which is always a hell of a lot better than sour, ugly ones. All in all, it’s kind of like a perfect bubblegum pop song; there’s nothing too substantial, but damn, it certainly feels good. Plus like any good, seasoned LA-centric photographer, Haber uses all the fine girls around him to his (and our) advantage – a strategy that never fails.
