Yola Monakhov is a Moscow-born photographer who has been shooting for the New Yorker magazine for six years. Monakhov has a MFA from Columbia University and a MA in Italian Literature. Not bad. All Monakhov's work surrounds a few themes: "Our relationship to our environment;
photographyʼs material and symbolic structures; and how photographs embody physical contact
and suggest notions of transcendence". Featured is the project Empire Pictures, a collection of images connected by the Hudson River. It's insightful and hard to tear yourself away from. More at yolamonakhov.com. Via lostateminor.com.
