German-born Markus Hartel moved to New York in 2003 and immediately realised that, for a street photographer, the city was just about as good as it gets. Roaming the streets for hours, Hartel says that he would explore the "urban jungle" for days, looking for that perfect candid shot. His pictures reveal a real fascination for the charismatic city and its inhabitants, with Hartel clearly favouring the subway – where people from all walks of life meet – as his location/s of choice. Street photography is almost always interesting, but Cartel's images also show a kind of awe for his surroundings; which is pretty endearing. More at markushartel.com.
