Regular Lifelounge readers undoubtedly would be familiar with her vast
catalog of work but for those who need an introduction, British
photographer Janette Beckman began her career as a social photographer,
documenting the rise of the early Brit punk scene in the 1970s while
working for both The Face and Melody maker magazine. During that time
she photographed the various emerging subcultures in the punk,
skinhead, ska and rockabilly scenes of London. For most of the 80s she
was located in NY and became one of the prominent photographer of the
pioneers of Hip Hop at the time. (for samples of this work please visit
