Growing up in the Bronx, Kevin Amato experienced a very specific type of masculinity. These experiences later bled into his photography, taking images of gangster dudes he knew, famous dudes and dudes he just met on the street. Working for the likes of Interview, Flaunt and being a frequent collaborator of Dazed and Confused, Amato takes the kind of raw, inherently cool photos that many photographers try and fail to achieve– there are few who can pull of the young-kid-covered-in-tatts-exhaling-smoke image and not seem like a wanker, but Amato definitely pulls it off.
