You're probably looking at these images right now and thinking "Oh, Jim Marshall is that guy!" For someone who created some of the most iconic images of Johnny Cash, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, and a ridiculous number more, it seems that during his lifetime Jim didn't seek the limelight that much. Hailing from Chicago, the photographer was the only snapper allowed back stage at The Beatles' last concert, was the official photographer for Woodstock, and followed Johnny Cash to San Quentin prison – where that amazing "up yours!" image was taken of the man in black. Although he was known for his abrasiveness during shooting (he once swore at Barbara Streisand for trying to give him direction and stormed out) there's no denying that his portraits of these rockstars made them all a little bit cooler.
