Jeffrey Stockbridge is an American photographer whose talent is undeniable. Apart from working on advertising and editorials, Stockbridge's main passion seems to be shooting the people and places of North Philadelphia. Philly is a city that's suffered: its population continues decreasing, unemployment is high, and approximately 24% of its inhabitants live below the poverty line. Stockbridge has photographed drifters, drug-addicts, prostitutes and disenfranchised people of the town, as well as the abandoned places they occupy. While a project like this could verge on exploitation, Stockbridge has approached it with a real sensitivity. The intimacy and tenderness with which he treats his portrait subjects is immediately recognisable. His images are at once wondrous, heart-breaking and heart-warming.
