In 1965, LIFE magazine photographer Bill Ray went on the road with the Hells Angels (like every other American magazine photographer at the time) and created a collection of intimate images following the gang along great highways. Bizarrely, this collection never made it to print and it’s only recently that Ray’s photos have been made public. Apart from capturing such a fascinating time and place, this series also chronicles the lives of biker ladies; with impeccable beehives, all black hipster get-ups and trademark sneers.
