Christer Strömholm is a Swedish photographer best known for his dramatic black and white street photography taken in Europe during the '50s and '60s. One of his most famous collections came about on a trip to Paris, and apparently, a visit to the largely transsexual brothel Place Blanche. Those expecting gritty realism of the hard knock life of Parisian prostitution will not find it here, in fact Stromholm's images are almost glamorous. Beautifully made up women laughing with each other on the street, playing with their pets and hanging out at the 'office' make prostitution seems unrealistically fun – kind of like Pretty Woman.
