Eastern Europeans are a strange bunch*: they like socks and sandals, they are overly enthusiastic about animal print (snakeskin in particular) and they believe it's acceptable for older gents to get around in neon g-string togs. (*I can say all this because the Euro side of my family is a little demented, but loveable.) Ridiculous generalising and stereotyping aside, Caspar Claasen's photographs of Moldova are magnificent. There's a tremendous balance between documentary style shots and photography for the LOLs. As Claasen says himself "There is a very thin, subjective line between funny and strange." We found the majority of Claasen's images actually manage to be both strange and funny, but without making his subjects the butt of the joke. It's a lovely look at how different, but exactly the same we all are, and how pointless it is to take ourselves too seriously.
