I'm not sure what it is that might drive a Scandinavian photographer to
leave his nothern abode in search of tragedy in a far away land but in
the case of Pieter Ten Hoopen
I'm certainly glad that he did. His aftermath images of the town of
Ballakot, Pakistan that was tragically torn apart by a violent
earthquake in 2006 are both stunning and shocking at the same time. He
was awrded first prize in Daily Life Stories of the 2008 World Press
Photo Awards and has won Press Photographer of the Year twice in
