After graduating in the late 70s from the university of Texas where he studied photography, Will van Overbeek was given an assignment by Rolling Stone to shoot a scene that epitomizes summer. He went to the massive (3 acre) natural Barton Springs swimming pool for inspiration and had continued to return there every summer shooting the pool side shenanigans with everything from a cheap waterproof camera to the more serious large format. .

When asked about the Springs in a recent interview in Design Arts Daily Van Overbeek said “It seems I always see friends or meet people at The Springs. I take my kids there to swim and help the younger ones to learn. A long time ago (before I met my wife), I fell in love there. A lot of life’s events do happen at the pool.”
