Remember when bands played for at least an hour and a half? Those days are gone, kids. Long gone. Having said that though, the Ting Tings did amazingly well considering the 43+ degree heat in Melbourne yesterday.
British duo Katie White and Jules De Martino pleased a super schvitzy crowd that we're pretty sure would have danced, clapped, cheered and sung more if it wasn't so hot. They began with 'We Walk' and 'Great DJ' (and performed nice extended versions of both) before working through every song on their album in a fairly formulaic way with 'Shut Up And Let Me Go' and 'That's Not My Name' as closers.
De Martino taught the drums a serious lesson, with subtle breaks and a little swagger while White (whose voice is a little conversational rather than incredible) was fun to watch – enthusiastic dance moves, showing off for some camera phones, beating a giant bass drum, and playing a bunch of different instruments. (We love a girl with a guitar.)
Best: De Martino playing the drums and guitar at the same time, while also harmonising with White during 'Traffic Light'.
Worst: About halfway through the 50ish-minute set, when the entire venue began smelling of not just armpits but feet too.
