While definitely less bolshy sounding than one of the previous leaks from Nas's upcoming Untitled (though some still argue that it's going to be called Nigger) the rapper puts a lot of thoughtful and provocative grit into his rhymes for these latest tracks.

Nas raps over the instrumental recently used by RZA for 'You Can't Stop Us Now' and uses some fairly graphic descriptions, calls himself Nasty Nasdaq in 'Queens Get the Money', and gets intellectual in an accessible way for 'We're Not Alone'. He's teamed up with everybody for the album, from Mr Mark Ronson to Busta Rhymes and Jay Electronica. Despite the provocative political and social aspects of these tracks, does Nas sound as good as he used to?

So here's the thing, Nas is still a dope MC, but his taste in music sucks. With the odd exception, a lot of his best verses are buried by dull hooks and generic production. If you want to hear some classic Nas rhyming over GOOD instrumental go to Youtube and search for 'Gods Stepson'. It's an album producer 9th wonder released featuring Nas vocals over really nice, soulful production. Check out the Life's a Bitch remix. 9th Wonder is one of the most under rated producers out there. In fact I just ordered his remix of Jay Z's Black album from the US - Black is Back. That's also worth a Youtube search.

word to mikolai .. there's a lot of dope tracks that NAS has released but there's even more that are lost due a mediocre production or dull hooks. not sure if it's my bias or not but some of the best NAS tracks were the marriage of his lyrics and premier's production. as of late the only track i've been feeling is "hero" produced by Polow the Don .. the rest of the "leaks" just ain't doin it.

The Green Lantern tape that dropped recently is pretty effing good. I stopped checking for NaS after It Was Written and the tape suprised me. Made you look was on some illness. The Weathermen remix of the consppiracy tape (Made you shit your pants) was just as if not better tho and it's the beat that both efforts have to credit. Nas just signed a deal with Fila so expect to see him peddling their track gear... Which brings me to the conundrum that is Nas. Dude is all controversial by raising the n-word as if it is an issue that has never been raised by rappers. PE really had a philosophy when it came to issues like this. So with Nas playing corporate whore on one hand and revolutionist on the other, I find it hard to take him seriously on either account...

Lets face it; Nas won the battle, Jay Z won the war.

5tef, of course a million rappers have brought up the n-word, but I think Nas has been extra controversial because he based an entire album on it and its meanings. Mikolai, you're right.

"I think Nas has been extra controversial because he based an entire album on it and its meanings" << I would say that he's being extra uncreative. This all smacks of headline grabbing (just like all the "hip-hop is dead" BS) from an MC that is past his prime.
