This duo has to be in the running for the
Least Expected to Collaborate title, right? M.I.A. and Christina Aguilera have joined forces for a song from Aguilera's upcoming album
Bionic (the singer's fourth studio album). The singer has tried it all – syrupy pop, dirty hip-pop, '30s throwback, and now this.
'Elastic Love' sounds like a bit of a homage to '80s nu-wave, and features lyrics about office equipment (from paperclips to rubber-bands) and rhymes 'elastic' with 'spastic'. Produced by Switch (one half of
Major Lazer) and M.I.A., Aguilera really called in the big guns, but the song just never manages to quite get there.
Fun fact: Both
Christina and
M.I.A. have had a go (or multiple goes) at Lady Gaga. Gaga has not responded. Upon hearing this song, we imagine Gaga is devouring a smug sambo.
