Nosaj Thing
So, this keeps happening: on-trend artist mashed-up with iconic artist (ie: The xx with Notorious B.I.G.) for an entire album. This week DJ Bassmeister and DJ O-Face are the mashers – blending Nosaj Thing with Nas and Sleigh Bells with Jay-Z respectively.

The Jay Bells (!) mix has plenty of moments (but, it has to be said, there are a couple of fumbly moments) while the Nasaj Thing (!!) album makes for much more engaging listening – perhaps because Nosaj Thing's beats are so much more abstract sounding. Difficult to compare as the concepts are obviously pretty contrasting.

Friends, what are your thoughts?

Not as tight as the XX Notorious album but kind of interesting all the same.

The Grey Album set the standard pretty high and nobody's really approached it in my opinion.

These are both pretty solid mash-up albums but I also reckon that " The Notorious xx" was a bit tighter and Lebronski is definitely right when he said nothing surpasses "The Grey Album". Although for me, the best mash-up album I've heard this year is "Mos Dub" by Max Tannone (The same dude who did the Jaydiohead (Jay-Z vs Radiohead) mash-up's, which mixes Mos Def vocals with classic dub reggae joints. If you haven't already checked it out, do so on the double. It's a free download at - http://mosdub.com/
