To hear record industry people talk about the ‘70s and ‘80s you’d think the streets were lined with coke, hookers and money. And they sort of were. The debauchery, the expenses accounts and the albums sales (not to mention ponytails) from those days are legendary. The thing is, that only ever applied to a select group of musicians. Unless you were George Michael or Prince or whoever, the reality was more likely to be a slot at the local pub (go Barnsey!) and driving around the country in a Tarago selling CDs hand to hand.
The internet has levelled that playing field and (for better or worse) pretty much anyone can now sell their music to anyone. They can also give it away. One of the best ways of promoting acts is via the miracle of online mixtapes.
On that note, we’ve trawled the internet and compiled a selection of new mixtapes for your BEST EVA weekend. A four-part series that will see you through the pre-party, the club, the after party and the horrible, end of the world comedown. Your complete weekend mix: totally free and legit.
