Poncho on. Poncho off. Poncho on. Poncho off. Lost poncho. Would you like a mud-smeared garbage bag instead? Despite weather restrictions at this year’s Parklife, Moore Park filled out a packed crowd of shirtless ravers, hipster kids, cute young things in denim cut-offs, and the occasional trashbag who’d “forgotten” to wear pants.
Props go to first time Parklife performers, NYC’s Chiddy Bang, for freestyling to the crowd’s choice of words, such as ‘Sydney’, ‘Parklife’, and (a predictable golden oldie) ‘sex’. Surprisingly, both Chiddy and New Young Pony Club managed to upstage Missy Elliot’s myriad of outfit changes and sparkly mics. We really do love you Missy, but please don’t fob us off with tiny samples of your best tracks and ten minute solo intervals from your back-up dancers.
Special mentions go to The Wombats, Washington and the undeniable babeness of Paris’ electro-rapper Uffie. The Dandy Warhols ended the day with a relatively subdued set that ended up being superseded by headliner’s Groove Armada. It may sound super daggy, but sometimes all a gal wants into life it to jump up and down to strobe lights.
