Big Day Out, Melbourne - photos

While it didn't reach the doomsday forecast of 40 degrees (a mild 38.1 was the peak) it was insufferably hot at the Melbourne Big Day Out. That didn't deter 52 thousand people milling about Flemington Racecourse however, to take in the likes of Die Antwoord, LCD Soundsystem, Tool, Iggy and the Stooges, Grinderman and Crystal Castles; all of whom put in exemplary sets in unforgiving conditions. How cute and enthusiastic are Matt & Kim? Very. How cool is Andrew WK? Lots. How much of an enigma is Nick Cave? Heaps enigmatic.

Great photo of Nick and Warren. Nick Cave looks like he is smiling. Adorable. Was he actually smiling or did you just capture him at the right moment while he was changing expressions from concentration to rock god-ness?

I saw Nick Cave smile quite a bit on Monday night at the RRR/Dirty Three gig. He seems to smile a lot more when Wazza is on stage with him. It must be love.

Wazza!! I once saw him run up a hill. It was the best. Nick was fierce at the Grinderman gig at The Forum the other week, but I was too far away to glimpse a proper smile. Although you could tell he was pretty chuffed when they played Man In The Moon without fault.
