New Lounger

Hey how you doin?

I went in to the local Borders in my home town the other day to have a look at design books in all areas of design. I was originally going in for Berlin Illustration (street art) book but then got carried away and moved more towards graphic designs books. I don't have a small second hand store in my area which is disappointing as you can find some gems.

So when going through all these designs books I just couldn't decide in which direction and what to get for a good design resource. I do realize that not one book will cover every thing and spending $70 on a book that isn't all up to what I thought it would be. Could be a bad move.

So can any one recommend a good graphic design / design book to help me with layouts and typography or even a book you own which has helped you.

Thanks for the help and I hope you coping in this heat.

I would recommend either "Frost* (Sorry Trees)" or "Sagmeister: Made You Look" (getting reprinted in March).

Also, buying online from Amazon is almost always cheaper (even with the shipping and shitty exchange rate).

I think its important to spend some time flipping pages & find ones that speak to your design sense because what i've learned is that if you reference the same stuff as everybody else, your work will look like everybody else's. that said, referencing the masters (as Ryz' awesome suggestions) will teach you kerning, proportions and all the important stuff

Good news is if you work in design, the books are tax-deductable (something us creatives don't think about too often it seems)

Just spent a few minutes searching for those two books Ryz suggested. "Frost* (Sorry Trees)" was priced at $110+ while "Sagmeister: Made You Look" was priced at $25.

I will be purchasing Sagmeister in my next Amazon shipment and I'll leave a little review here once I get it.

I'm an avid book collector, one of my favourite being Jeremyville, Sessions
