It's summer. This means model
Marloes Horst is swimming in the Maldives. As she does.
A very serious survey commissioned by the
International Lingerie Fair taking place in Paris next week has found that French women are no longer as fond of self-inflicted wedgies as they used to be. Today, only one in four of them own a G-string, compared to 30% in 2008.
Fashion designer
Diane von Furstenberg has followed in Monica Lewinsky's footsteps by making her mark on fashion at the
Whitehouse. She's created a patriotic tote in honour of
Barack Obama.
In: Democrats: Out: Republicans (and also hopefully those gross wedged heels everybody is wearing). Designers like
Proenza Schouler,
Marc Jacobs, and
Alexander Wang joined Furstenberg in designing for Obama as part of US Vogue editor
Anna Wintour's campaign for his re-election. And you thought the fashion industry was bi-partisan...
James Franco is 98% set to play the role of another gay dead icon: fashion, culture and Patti Smith photographer/ex-husband
Robert Mapplethorpe. Anyways, here's a fan video which also breaks all barriers of sexual persuasion.
Ex-model and ANTM judge
Charlotte Dawson is dancing on the grave of a gossip columnist from NZ tabloid Herald on Sunday,
Rachel Glucina. "The bully culture removed at last #dingdong," tweeted Dawson on
her position's sudden job opening. Glucina pairs leopard print with Chanel handbags, which is all you really need to know about her to make a judgement call.
Charlotte's also been cast on the latest
Celebrity Apprentice alongside a bunch of flailing B-grade stars like the Hoff, Dicko, and Patti Newton. You know your career has plateaued when... (Please don't sue us, Ms Dawson, we're a bit scared of you.)
American Apparel is rummaging through boxes. For once this isn't a euphemism for its founder being involved in an underage sex scandal. Here's the brand's latest video shot in a downtown LA sunglasses warehouse.
Britain's Royal Ascot has enacted the fashion equivalent of a Human Rights Convention by banning fascinators in its royal enclosure, with "a headpiece which has a base of four inches or more in diameter acceptable as an alternative to a hat". Yes, clearly ridiculous, but we say it's a win for humankind regardless.
Fashion designer
Marc Jacobs should probably have a Human Rights Convention written in his honour for reals. He's been ordering his minions to glue shoes to the soles of models' feet so they don't fall over on the runway.
So...
Prada is awesome. The luxury label recently enlisted actor/model/slashies like
Tim Roth,
Gary Oldman,
Willem Dafoe, and
Adrien Brody for its menswear's parade.
Despite the runway awesomeness, Prada's namesake is still a little bit sadface. Designer
Miuccia Prada thinks the upcoming NY
Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute display in her honour is too "formal" and needs to be, like, three times more "playful". Somebody will probably have foamy latte thrown at them over this.
Miuccia has also signed actress
Mia Wasikowsa the new face of
Miu Miu and by proxy has made her
the new face of Betty from Mad Men.
Rihannon is looking pretty minxy and African-American in
her latest denim and lingerie campaign for
Armani. Meanwhile, she's white-facing it (
again) for her new album cover, making her the subject of outraged people who don't have much else to do with their time.
Brazil's wider media is also getting outraged over skin colour due to selective runway choices. Only a handful of the models who walked at its recent fashion week were black, despite more than half of the population being of African ancestry.
Less racist:
Liv Tyler. She's wearing black lipstick. It was designed for her by
Givenchy's head of cosmetics. (Yes, whole news reports are dedicated to this stuff like this these days.)
Next week a pop up store in
Sydney is holding
a OFWGKTA pop up on Oxford St. (See the gallery for more info.) You could look like a Cali hip hop collective in those clothes...
Australian model
Bambi has a blog! It's for
local shoe brand Tony Bianco!! She writes about traveling and footwear and being in love!!! And all of her writing is really exciting!!!!!!!!!
Another day, another graffiti artist fashion collaboration.
Ears has followed
Anthony Lister in producing
a sunglasses collection with
Colab.
And lastly: leopard print, burnt orange, and curtains-cum-shirts. Yup. Here's a new video for
General Pants.
