Is there anything Kanye West can’t do? Well, not according to him. After several aborted attempts he’s finally launched his very first fashion line. Premiered at Paris Fashion Week, DW eschews the sportswear favoured by most rappers in favour of prêt-à-porter.
Kanye’s fashion aspirations haven’t exactly been a secret. He’s spent the last couple of years ‘interning’ with Fendi, hanging out with Karl Lagerfeld, attending shows and saying “Yeah, I love clothes, grew up around them, my moms used to wear furs,” for as long as we can remember.
Of course aspiration, money and a blood stream that’s probably about 80% cocaine (jokes) can’t actually make up for raw talent and the response to Kanye’s first line has been decidedly mixed. While everyone close to him has been all "Brilliant! Brilliant! Brilliant!" the wider reaction hasn’t been quite so enthusiastic. Not that Yeezy’s going to let some fashion blogger "slow his roll". Question is, where to next for the rapper, producer, actor, director, model and fashion designer?
No, seriously? Unless Yeezy is the next US president it’s kinda hard to imagine where he's going to go from here…
