In the same vein as streetwear labels such as Bathing Ape, Lowrider and Number (N)ine, Japanese label Anokha proves to us why we love the detached hipster coolness of this country's designers. Peering out from their website and blog is a veritable smorgasboard of shabby-haired, blurry-eyed boys all looking fresh in understated casual-wear.
This relatively low-key label has predominately focused upon sneakers and coats in the past, however most recently has begun to collaborate with the likes of Goodenough, Tush, Plum and Let It Ride. The recent 5th anniversary with WHIZ resulted in the Joint Works Mountain Jacket, comprised of lots of mesh, nylon and oriental-flavoured patches. As you will see, Anokha does love a bit of the ol' patchwork.
Whilst it's primarily cool streetfare, Anokha also has a bit of a soft spot for the cute and cuddly. The collaboration with Goodenough produced a teddy-bear range (cue:
aww...!) also complete with colourful patchwork. Other pieces, such as the Gonzo jacket, are just plain mad/rad, with a fond use of colour and more randomly placed pieces of fabric.
Like many other Japanese labels, Anokha has a thriving
Slow Burning Blog. You'll find more collaborations, hipster art openings and other tidbits here... if you can read Japanese.
