Jeepers, creepers: Australian women's label
Evil Twin certainly has stocked up on the heavily wedged flats this season. They've also bought out an entire velvet production factory by the looks of it*, with a highly trended collection heavy on red, studded leather, thick lace and other moody goth-inspired pieces.
The autumn/winter 2011 collection is called
The Broken Are The Beautiful. It's a name that, in more conservative settings, would probably be seen as a pseudonym for sado-masochism. In the fashion world, however, it's simply equivalent to cash registers ringing and lots of young models looking forlorn yet defiant... in knee-high socks.
Apart from the goth influence, there's also a bit of
Wapanese happening in there, with a few winged kimonos. Other more predictable yet solid on-trend pieces include cut-out shoulder tops, shredded maxi knits, sheer-cut tops, and an awesome pleated velvet skirt. It's topped off with '90s-style blood red lips that will make you nostalgic for
real vampires, like those ones out of
Queen Of The Damned.
But back to the creeper shoes. Did you know that their "technical" name is brothel creepers? The WWII African-based soldiers who first wore them loved them so much that they didn't take them off upon returning to Europe's more shady nightspots. It's kind of fitting given the current fashion trends.

*Not complaining. Can't get enough of the stuff. Practically smoke it in a crack pipe we're that obsessed.
