A fashion label called Half Light? Hmm. Sounds suspiciously like a novel by Stephenie Meyer to us. Maybe it’s the brand’s links to blood-thirsty label Blood is the New Black
. Perhaps it’s because this delightful little label has got our hearts pumping a thousand times an hour.
Or maybe – just maybe – we’re just overly obsessed with vampires like everybody else in the universe
. (Yup, it’s probably that.) Either way, the viriginal diffusion line from BITNB creator Mitra Khayyam is one that you’ll really want to sink your fangs into. The debut collection is all freakishly white skin, over-exposed lightness, and rolling tumbleweed.
The blend of whimsical romance and American trash is a bit in the vein of television series True Blood
– a connection definitely helped by the gun-toting models. Ultimately, it is infinitely wearable for most wardrobes. And just like Mitra’s five-year-old baby, Half Light also gives upcoming artists a platform to promote their work.
This first collection for spring/summer 2011 feature graphics and prints designed by LA label Popomomo
. This design house likes to draw inspiration from postmodernism (hence the name) and “relative perspectives”. What you don’t need a Cultural Studies course reader to understand, however, is Popomono’s environmental credentials: it’s all totally environmentally sustainable.
