Maya, the respect keeps dwindling. Girl just needs to breathe in and out for a minute before
she starts jibber-jabbering. Days after an apparently appalling show at Governer's Island* in New York (which was eventually rained out) M.I.A.'s
interview with Time Out London magazine has been released.
The British singer/rapper has a few choice words for Mama O and
(obvs) Lady Gaga, even Pharrell a little bit: "Oprah seemed like she was giving me the cold shoulder... She was with Iman [aka David Bowie's model wife]. Iman was always dancing with me, hugging and kissing me, but Oprah seemed really pissed off with me."
And: "The best bit was me and Pharrell having a fight… He was just telling me off like crazy: 'You can't just keep beating people up…'"
And: "[Oprah] made this huge speech at the ball praising Lady Gaga and about how she is helping Americans to be the best of themselves... There's millions of other Americans who represent that for me. Is it about numbers? About how much you're selling? Is it truly about the journey? Because [Gaga's] journey isn't that difficult: to go from the fucking Upper East Side to a fucking performing arts school and on to a stage at the museum of fucking wherever. That journey's about four miles."
*MIA has promised fans a free show since the Hard NYC concert was not ideal. She reckons the sound team was shit. (Not in a good way.) Read all about it in her
