Australia has a Prime Minister, finally

POSTED BY Katie ON 07 SEP 2010 @ 03:24 PM
And it's not this kangaroo.

Two weeks after the election, and what seems like a three hour speech from Oakeshott, Australia has a Prime Minister.

PS. It's Julia Gillard.

I died of boredom, got reincarnated as a cat, hung myself nine times and got reincarnated back as myself in some sort of weird 'only in Hollywood' Karmic alternate-reality. It's a good day to be Penny Wong.

I found that so humorous that I am going to steal it, use it within my separate splinter cells of friendship groups, and be funny hence increasing my status. This has been working for me for years Freeak. Thank you.

I'M REALLY HAPPY FOR YOU, AND IMMA LET YOU FINISH, BUT TONY WINDSOR HAD ONE OF THE COMPARATIVELY BRIEFEST SPEECHES OF ALL TIME. (I stole this from another friend too)

No doubt that article would be in The Australian too... Picture the headline if the alternative's broadband plan went ahead...? Buffering.......................... Please wait........................... Article Loading..................... ............... .................... ................. ............ ............ .......... ..................... .................. Headline: Liberal government launches state of the art broadband network**. Meanwhile the world chuckles and races ahead.... I'm going to remain optimistic. Hopefully they don't fuck it up. Yeah, think about how fast the NSW Labor ministers will be able to gamble and download porn at work on their tax payer funded computers.

And how quickly certain loungers can spread their right wing laced negativity and propaganda. I know right. Awesome. ; )

Better to be right than left.. right? But hey, half the population love Labor, half love Liberal. It's like going to the casino and betting on Red. Or was it Black?
Jamie  -  about a year ago

Actually, I think the main issue in this election was that neither Liberal nor Labor was "loved", which is why it was so even – they are essentially the same political party. The difference, for me, is that one party isn't led by an anti-abortion God-fearing homophobe.

Which – before you say it – doesn't mean that I think J.Gill is ideal either. But I am more optimistic about her than Abbott.

I'm not sure how throwing a fact in makes me right wing and negative Luke? I don't assume you to be a latte before lunch - chardonnay after, tax loving, pro-let's add another layer of government, I'll have another grant thanks Lefite. ;-p I've said it before, I'll say it again. I voted for Sex.

The Sexers actually have some really good policies, Freeak. Seriously.

Lebronski, they were the only party who didn't have a policy that made my brain barf. All of them made sense. Well, most of them. But none of them were the kind of marginalising arse-gravey ladled out by the major parties. I wasn't kidding. I voted for them.

Same Freeak. Well said. I just pictured politicians ladling arse-gravy. Now i'm eating chocolate.

Hey Freeak, if i implied you're of a right persuasion and you're not then I stand corrected. btw I wasn't just talking about you (ahem Jamie). I may have assumed your support based on some of your criticisms (there've been quite a few). Anyway I still reckon as fucked as this situation is, it's still better than the kind of "stability" that the anit-abortion, god fearing homophobe had to offer...

I've just been trying to create balance, as well as start mischief (admittedly). If that's made me look like a card carrying young liberal than that's probably more of a comment on what I've been trying to balance out than my own political leanings. While most of my views and ideologies are conservative or "liberal", just as many are socialistic. I'm not a right-ard. I just seem that way because I went to a private school and I live in Brah-t'n.

Saying that a Liberal government is an "anit-abortion, god fearing homophobe" is the kind of propaganda that Labor love. Well done on helping more Australian youth make more ill-informed decisions. I would prefer a government that actually has some financial acumen. And before you all pipe up about policies, without proper financial management, there is not money for policies. Period. I am trying to put some balance towards anyone out there reading Lifelounge that heaven forbid like Liberal, but are too fearful to discuss it due to the backlash from the community. It's not like Gillard is Obama and this is a Hope campaign guys.

wasn't talking the party as a whole if you read the comments. fyi. the homophobic, anti abortion, god fearing reference was specifically directed at the current leader... if Turnbull was still the leader of the Liberal Party we wouldn't be having this conversation. no one ever said Gillard was like Obama.... she's just not like Abbot. big difference.

The way a government run a country is not up to the individual, it's up to the party. So if you are saying that you would have voted Liberal if Abbot was not at the helm, that is a pretty big issue. Anyhow, whatever, we will all still be friends. My mother told me NEVER to talk about politics, religion or age. I talk about all three. Always gets people going. Notice how these blog posts get more comments than anything??? Let's start a politics blog. Feeak you can run one, and Luke you can run the other one. Watch the hits go through the roof. I have to run now and drink my 2003 Katnook Estate Chardonnay while listening to jazz and discussing politics.

For the record I didn't vote liberal or labor and I never said that I would or wouldn't vote for the liberal party if Turnbull was the leader. I just meant that we wouldn't be having this discussion. TA's values aren't an issue for you and they are for me. I'm not comfortable with someone like that leading a party that could hold a majority in parliament in a country where my friends and family live. Let's agree to disagree... The decision's been made anyway.

Hells bells. Yes, I know how our democracy works. As I said, Labor and Liberal are essentially the same in my mind. Regardless, I don't like how Tony Abbott's conservative religious views views seep into his political speeches. What happened to the separation of church and state? More importantly WHY THE SHIT CAN'T I HAVE MY OWN POLITICAL BLOG?
