This weekend saw Melbourne swamped with Stormtroopers, Sailor Moons, The cast of the Avengers and pretty much any other comic superhero you can think of, plus a hefty bunch of ones you never knew existed. The main draw cards were Stan Lee (Marvel) and Patrick Stewart (Star Trek). Anyone who knows comics has heard of Stan Lee, he created or was part of the creation of most of the superheroes & villains that exist as movie characters today. At 89 years old he was full of life and spent an hour conversing with fans that were understandably super nervous about speaking with their life-long hero.
Walking around the packed event was tricky, but the costumes were crazy, the collectables were tempting and it definitely hit the kid strings. If they plan it a little better next year and deal with the teething problems of a first year event I'll go again for sure.
These guys were everywhere.
The toy range was insane, this classic Jaba being strangled by Leia was a standout.
This was a dude... I hope they aren't his kids or they will be talking about this excursion to a therapist someday.
The robot from Transformers has only got one arm.
Stan Lee, we're so lucky he had a translator on stage to convert Aussie to American, no joke.
