I love creating, that’s pretty much it. Painting, photography, type, design and architecture all float my boat so this blog will be filled with images that reflect the things I like. Hope you enjoy my time here.

NEX-5 election weekend photos

BLOG POSTED BY JONAS ON 23 AUG 2010 @ 02:19 PM
Being that it was election weekend, I was hiding from the polling madness. Here are some shots from around the place.

Caught this web at the Thousand Steps in the Dandenongs. 16mm, f/2.8, background blur maxed out, ISO 200. Anyone who knows me will tell you how impressive it is that I went on this hike, fitness is not my thing. That being said I highly recommend it for a city getaway, just remember to take water, if you must take a camera then anything bigger than the NEX-5 will just weigh you down — I almost abandoned my DSLR on a hike once, the extra weight will get to you about halfway up, trust me.

While the country watched the election, we chilled out with some red and watched Wedding Crashers. Such a good decision. 28mm (using the 18-55mm lens), f/4.0, ISO 1600, and most impressively — no tripod. The sharpness of this camera in low light is ridiculously good.

16mm, f/2.8, ISO 200, nice blur effect on the right side of the badge even though there isn't too much distance difference between the center and the edge.

A little self portrait, same settings as above. Check the detail in the shadow, nice!

NEX-5 Photos from around Prahran

BLOG POSTED BY JONAS ON 20 AUG 2010 @ 11:02 AM

This building is crazy, the front room has no roof or glass in the window frames, perfect for the hot weather that is just around the corner (cue sunshine). Shot on the 18-55mm lens.

Junky sculpture shot on the 16mm with background blur. Keep an eye out for these guys, they're all over town.

Another 16mm shot with background blur and this time DMF (Direct Manual Focus) which means that the focus can be manually adjusted after the camera has done its job auto focusing, in case you want to fine tune the focal point. I can see this setting is going to get some serious airplay.

Sony NEX-5 road test

BLOG POSTED BY JONAS ON 18 AUG 2010 @ 04:15 PM
Here's a few shots from the brand spanking new Sony NEX-5 I won (I'm still in shock). I'm getting used to the settings so I'll do my best to make note of them on here so you can use them yourselves.

Shot using the awesome background blur function.

Intelligent auto, sets pretty much everything you need for a good picture. It should really be called "Drunk Mode", I think it'd be pretty hard to mess up a shot with this setting, even after a few drinks. (First time I've seen a full rainbow, BTW.)

This panoramic mode is crazy, I can see myself using it quite a bit.

Excuse the overcooked rosti, I'm out of practice.
