Maybe I built it up too much in my head.
Maybe my standards are too high.
But after getting excited all last week about the upcoming Superbowl - and the usual feast of awesome ads it delivers, I feel really, really super let down. In short, the whole lot suck.
Maybe it's the effect of the GFC and how cheaper media space this year opened the door to "a less than blue chip" advertiser, who knows. All I know is that I've just seen too many unfunny men without their pants on, too many talking babies and too many animals doing things humans should be doing.
And it's not just that there's hardly a fresh idea in the whole lot, they've even shamelessly rehashed old ads. Like the Jordan V Bird McDonalds ad that was so awesome years ago. And another one for a mobile company that has old footballers simply embarrassing the hell out of themselves.
Naturally, there are craploads of Bud Light ads -none of them a patch on anything done previously (apart form maybe the TPain one) and the mandatory Clydesdale spot for Bud, but there was only one ad in the whole bunch that would make me positively change the way I thought about a brand: Man's Last Stand for Dodge.
After all this, I guess the last thing you want to do it click on the link and watch them all yourself, but maybe I'm wrong.
I'm probably not though.
Either way, 2010 is only going to be remembered for one thing: the Saints winning their first Superbowl.
