Sometimes the weirdest things get me excited. The smell of hot vinyl seats on a summers day, the sound of a cold beer being cracked open, the sand in the crutch of my wetsuit, you know stuff like that. The one thing that spells summer to me is the old sunlounge. They are almost always full of spiders and rusty water, they smell funky when they get hot and they stick to you like a wet pair of undies. God bless the sunlounge Australia, its a beautiful thing.

Sometimes when you get upgraded to the bridal suite , you get more than you bargained for. Cheap cherub artwork, wicker love hearts, non-bubbling spa baths, shiny doona covers, mosquitos and a tv with one fuzzy channel. Not to mention disco blinds in reflecto silver, a fire escape in your room and a bunch of blood hungry mosquitos. Unequivocally Australian.

*This is a pre warning for a slightly political rant. Apologies upfront.

With a weather prediction of 39-40 degrees this Wednesday in Melbourne, its highly likely that any water that has fallen recently will dry up and disappear real quick. We are going into summer, with record November heatwaves, and not much in the dams. Why the hell arent we harnessing these rainy deluges? Why are we charged a fee for having a water tank? Why are our utilities privatised? Why do people in rural Victoria get charged for having a dam? Are they completely blind to the amount of water that falls in the city. Desal. Shit really? Is that the answer?

Just a little image that reminds me of how hard it can be surfing through winter in Victoria. Its howling cross shore winds , storm fronts, freezing cold water and unforgiving swell can really give you the shits some times. But hey, it keeps the crowds away doesnt it? Thanks god for summer I say!

A lot of people go around spruiking the call "brother" or "bro" these days. Some kind of Kiwi slash Californian hippy throwback I guess. Anyway, I probably do it too. In fact I think I do, but I immediately feel like a tool after saying it. Fact of the matter is, the word "mate" is a pretty bloody cool colloquial term of endearment for an Aussie, so lets replace "brother" with "mate" again, and leave the word "bro" for our real brothers.
